Last weekend was a blast! The Chestnut Creek School of the Arts (Galax, VA) offered a 20 hour, Friday through Sunday Intermediate Banjo workshop with Kirk Sutphin. Six of us were signed in when class started Friday at 5 PM. What a great time, the class was small enough so that it was just about a private lesson. Kirk worked on 2 and 3 finger picking styles and Round Peak claw hammer. At times it was almost sensory overload. All of us had recorders, smart phones or video cameras; I sure hope I was the only techno klutz. My recorder, with new batteries, was completely unpredictable with pick up and a few un-commanded auto stops. All in all close to 2 hours of tape produced about 15 minutes of usable audio.
Kirk also played in a Saturday night concert across the street at the Rex Theater Saturday night with Riley Baugus; sort of a debut concert for their new CD.
Back home now, 6 miles away, plink-plunk and drop-thumbing the cats to distraction. Did I mention what a great weekend?
