I assume you're talking about a bluegrass banjo.I've had a Nasa aluminum ring in my kel kroydon, that'll save about 2 lbs.Sounded pretty good too,but I sold it to try a new huber ring. I've got one of those double shoulder straps that I've never used.If you'd like to try it,send an email. I also try to hold the banjo with both hands and take the weight off between songs.

If you don't already have one, get a Neotech mega strap. It's super wide and made of a bungy like material. It sounds gimmicky and doesn't look pretty. But it really feels like it's shedding pounds from your banjo's weight.
I've had so many friends buy this strap after trying mine. Just a few weeks back I was showing a buddy of mine my new Huber Lancaster. He's got the same banjo, his is just a few years older. So he's playing it and he goes, "This sounds great and it plays like mine, but your's is a lot lighter." I thought about it for a second and was wondering if the new tone ring makes all that much difference in weight when I realized that he had just never used my strap before.
I can't reccomend this thing enough... neotechstraps.com/mega-strap.html
