My First Love

Posted by dgill on Saturday, March 5, 2011

My wife and I have been married 29 years today.  She is my first love and my best friend in all of my life.  Oh, now don't get me wrong, we have had to work at our relationship and even hard at times to sort through the tough times to find the good times.  But that is also what helped us grow fonder of each other.  Heck, anything worth having is worth working at it.

Kinda reminds me of the banjo.  If you are going to really love the banjo, you have to work at it,  You have to work through the hard times just so you can make it to the good times.  Hey, any of you who know what I am talking about, just reflect on your own experiances with either the banjo or a relationship that you have had.  Now enjoy the feelings that these thoughts just brought back to you.  Man that is a great feeling, is it not?

We have raised two children together, which both are married, and they have given us two wonderful grandchildren to enjoy.  It has taken us hard work together to obtain the means to provide for each other and our family over the years.   But it was worth every minute of it.  It brings me great joy, knowing that our commitment to each other has hopefully been passed to our children as well.  I hope they too can appreciate this gift, just as their mother and I have for many years and by the grace of god, we will for many more to come.

There is nothing more dear to me than my wife Sherry and I am very lucky to have her in my life.  I am a very lucky man to have had these experiances in life, and even more importantly, a smart man for recognizing it.

Hey Donnie, I know how you feel. My wife and I have had 15 wonderful years together. The other 25 weren't all that great! hahahaha Sorry I couldn't resist. We will be married 40 years in a couple of months. Have a happy anniversary. :) Ron

The man speaks the truth. Boys, if you have a good one, be thankful you have her, treat her right, and give her a hug as often as you can. She can disappear in a heartbeat, and you will sure miss her when she's gone.

In the immortal words of Don Henley:
"If you find somebody to love in this world
You better hang on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door"
Yep, I got a good one too Donnie and I can totally relate to what you are saying. Rock on man!
