Today I celebrate the birth of the woman who bought me my first banjo: My wife. It was a risky proposition. Would I be able to learn how? Would I want to? Nevertheless, being a born risk-taker, she waded into the unknown sea, and bought me my first banjo.
Good thing she was born. Good thing she was born a risk taker. Good thing she tolerates bad banjo playing. I toast her today, on her birthday, and I will play her song today again and again, the first little awkward song I wrote, "Song for Andrea." (It's on my music page, for those of you who are interested. It's a few years old now. As are we all.)
Here's to my wife, the patron saint of my banjo adventure!

Cheers Andrea and Kevin, here's to many more years of celebrating.
erm .. what did she give you this year Kevin?
My other half gave me my banjo and then a year later he gave me a tutor book, I could've done with it a bit sooner really but better late than never : )

Thanks Lyndsay, thanks Jane. For my most recent birthday, she gave me a nice bottle of scotch and a bright blue rainproof windbreaker. Guess she wants me to drink outside no matter what the weather's like.
