Well, I seem to be going through quite a lot of banjos these days. Right now I am the proud owner of an Epiphone MB500 that I got for the great price of $650. The Deering Sierra was nice but just didn't quite have the depth of tone that I was looking for. The Epiphone has that and then some. Yes, I know it's a Chinese banjo, but man does this thing sound good. I need to make some sound files, maybe even a banjo review video for it and post it. Problem is I'm not that great a player so it'll sound awful in my hands. I'm not sure why songs sound so good when I'm playing by myself then when I record them they go to crap. Hmmm, the question of the year it seems...
Regardless, I need to play more and having such an easy to play banjo with great sound may be just what I need to kick off the new year playing more. New Years Resolution maybe? Could be a good one. Perhaps I could play for at least 15 minutes a day. Maybe? Perhaps? With two young kids it's hard to find the time, but it SHOULD be a priority for me.
I also have to lose weight this year. It's becoming more and more important as I get older. My mom is a diabetic and my dad died from diabetes. I certainly have it in the family. time to get adamant about it. I have spent the first half of my life eating anything I want, perhaps the second have should be an atonement.
My last resolution for this year? Put more effort into my work. There are some things I need to accomplish that I have been dreading.
1) lose weight
2) more effort into the job
3) play the banjo more

My husband lost his dad to diabetes, and my mama is on 2 insulin shots a day. Yes, it is extremely important that you get it under control now, before you become dependant on insulin, or have to be on a yucky diet. If you lose weight now, eat healthier, and excercise, you CAN still enjoy things you like to eat, only not all the time. Everything in moderation-including moderation!! :) Your goals don't seem that hard to reach. How about this- keep blogging about your progress. Put it out there. That way you'll see it yourself, and others will too, sort of like they're "counting on you". Know what I mean? And post it on your fridge. Your family is your biggest support!!! :) Merry Christmas!

I record every once in a while just for a reality check. I recorded today with my friends and I played my goldtone ob250 I was amazed at how good it sounded, I usually play my Hopkins, but the weather is bad here so I took the Goldtone. I think most banjo's sound good if they are set up right, but thats just me. Best of Luck, make time to play you'll be a better man for it

Sometimes I think my pickin' is sounding purty good...then I record something or go back and listen some of my recorded stuff....kinda puts things back in perspective and I stop dreaming of giving up my day-job...!!!!
