Had to go half way to Lansing on business, so figured I'd go see what was happening at Elderly. Played a Rich and Taylor, because I wanted to see if I liked the neck. Nice banjo and easy to play. Also played a Stelling Staghorn. What a beautiful instrument - but I didn't like the wider neck.
Now the funny thing was, over in the collector's corner of BHO they're taking some potshots at Gold Tones. I have a BG 250, and it sounded better than either the R&T or the Stelling. Granted, neither one was set up very well, and they came from a cold storage room, so it was hard to keep them in tune as they warmed up - but still my Gold Tone was louder and lovelier than either one of the more expensive banjoes. So make fun of its looks if you must, but mine sounds pretty good. I'm sure the Stelling and R&T could be set up to sound much better, but my 250 isn't very carefully set up either. Guess I'll have to take it to some jams and see how it holds up.
Here's another thing I didn't know. Banjoes attract women. How come nobody on the hangout ever mentions that. I wasn't even playing that good, and a couple of ladies started flirting and complimenting me. My goodness, i may have to practice more.

LOL! Now if you think banjos are a treat for the ladies, well, you should just see them come a running when the bagpipe is being played!

Glad you got to Elderly's. When I've been there they are so dang busy that it's hard to get someone to help me. Sure is a popular place to musicians to hang. Always good to decide what you have is pretty darn good, and that's what happened when I went there and drooled over all the instruments. Was fun to touch them all though!
