Banjo Paul here after a long long absence from the Banjo Hangout...actually, after a long long absence from many online endeavors. Life sure got busy and crazy for me this year, and I haven't found a spare moment to crack open the door and peek into the Hangout. With the looming holidays and a little news about a guest post over on my blog, I thought it high time to post a quick message.
I'm feel pretty fortunate to have had a great 2010. I'm alive and healthy, and while the year contained it's share of frustrations and setbacks, there was plenty of good things to make it one for the record books. Two banjo-related experiences in particular stand out: I had the good fortune of getting together with my friend Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys for a little banjo picking this year, and I met my online friend Elizabeth Garrow when she made a trip to the United States, all the way from Scotland. We sat down and picked banjo together and I even let her beat me in tennis. (Not really...she's a strong player and she ran me around the court.) I really hope your year was great too, and let me just wish you a very happy Thanksgiving and a blessed holiday season. I look forward to our continuing online friendship...and maybe even a little bit of in-person picking.
Along with the holiday wishes, I thought you might find it interesting to note that I have a guest post over on my blog, written by an active member of the Hangout: your friend and mine, Steve Roberts. Steve goes by Frebazak here on the Hangout...here is his home page: http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/home.asp?id=5822 I asked Steve to write a guest post about his experience in choosing finger picks as a follow up to an article that I wrote way back in January of this year. Steve was kind of enough to submit an article recently, and I got it posted tonight. The blog address is http://www.banjosrule.com/blog. I'm sure Steve would be thrilled if you would read what he wrote and then leave him some comments at the bottom of the post.
Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and here's to a great 2011! Oh, and as I always say: pick 'em if ya got 'em! Banjo Paul out.
