Yesterday, I celebrated the 5th anniversary of my great banjo experiment. On that day, my wife gave me a banjo for my 45th birthday. (If you excel at math, you'll know that I've reached the half-century milestone without my having to say it out loud. Oops. I did.) 5 years ago, I couldn't read music, didn't even know how to hold the banjo, and for the first few months, the outcome of the experiment was in doubt. And now? It's hard to imagine life without the banjo.
I can't celebrate this anniversary without thanking the BHO and my friends here. When my wife called my bluff by putting a banjo in my hands, I began looking for banjo information everywhere: online, in bookstores, on magazine racks. I instantly felt somehow unloved in comparison to guitarists, for whom there seemed to be almost too much information. And then I found the BHO, and I've never looked back. The members here, the information here, and the spirit of cooperation and helpfulness here have kept me going, offering encouragement at every step along the way. So on this anniversary, perhaps meaningful only to me: Thank you, friends, thank you BHO. I don't know where my banjo and I would be without you!

Five years for me too Kevin, only I don't think I've progressed quite as spectacularly as you have. Happy Birthday, I hope you have a great day, but I doubt that your wife could top that banjo as a birthday gift. Unless it's another banjo?

Congrats Kevin, both on your 5-yr banjo anniversary and on your birthday! I've really enjoyed reading your interesting blogs on your banjo experiences here on the BHO, so please carry on sharing your thoughts with us as you continue the journey!
