Just got back from this great camp and I'm still a little light-headed from rubbing elbows and sharing tunes with all terrific banjo players that spent the weekend. There's very few areas of endeavor where you can sit down to dinner with the superstars and just share a meal and have a normal conversation. If I was an electric guitar player I doubt that there would be events available to me where i could pull up a chair and have a sandwich with Eric Clapton.
This banjo camp has been running for the past eleven years or so and such great banjo players like Tony Trischka, Pete Wernick, Riley Baugus, John Hermann, Mac Benford, Jim Mills, Bill Keith, Brad Leftwich, Walt Koken have spent the weekend sharing licks, ideas, tunes and history with anyone in attendance. Each time I attend one of these I'm really stunned by the generous spirit of those who come willing to share the love of this great American music.
This particular camp has been admirably and ably run by Mike Holmes who has never failed to deliver the finest talent that the banjo world has to offer. You can find information on location and dates at his website www.mugwumps.com
