Working on a few more tunes, from TAB. My ultimate goal, is to be able to hear a break, and be able to figure it out. I am so far from there. So, for now, I am trying to figure songs out from TAB. Is it just me, or is some TAB a complete mystery? I look at it thinking: "And how do they think I am going to do that?" Not that I am dissing the people who write the TAB. God knows I can't write it. But there have been times when I have tweaked things a bit, to either get the sound I want, the fingering I want, or both. I asked my teacher about this, and he thought it was actually a good thing. Partly, because he said it shows I have a good working understanding of "Scruggs' rules", and also, that I am listening, and figuring out the sound I want. In the meantime, it is slow, and sounds hideous. But.... I am still having fun. And isn't that what it is all about?

Yiu may be getting tab that's too advanced for you at this point. That happens a lot. Try finding beginner tabs and see if that doesn't maike it much easier. As you get used to tab, it get easier to "see" what it says and play it and then you can go on to some of those tabs that seem too far out for you now.
When I was first learning, I went through the same thing: got tabs that were just too much for me. I put them away and got them out 6 months or a year later and found that they were not near as difficult as I thought -- experience helps!

You may be right. I guess I should try the easier stuff, but most of what I want to know, is the more difficult stuff. haha!

Having fun is very much what it's all about. Keep going, and you'll eventually get there. The journey is the fun part.
Cheers,
Kevin

There are so many different versions out there, I'm sure it's ok to tweak a tab to suit your ability. I know I do, there are some notes my left pinky just goes into spasm over so I have to find another one that will do.

I tweak tab as well. Let's face it, the pros rarely play a tune the same way twice. Playing about with rolls and riffs is what it's all about. I have been struggling with an ending for a tune I've been learning recently, so I changed it around. it sounds far better to me and also gives me a nice feeling of achievement. Saying all that, I do try and tackle some tab that is just far too advanced for me. I put it away and get it out again after a few months.

Thanks gang! I agree with what y'all say. And, it does give a sense of achievement!
