It was my first time at Port Dover for Friday the 13th the Canadian motorcycle rally. Dover is about a four hour ride from Kingsville. I started off by myself in the morning and by the time I reached Blenhiem there were three of us riding to-gether; at St Thomas about eight; at Aylmer twenty strong; and then by Simcoe it was as far as the eye could see, side by each, hundreds of motorcycles. Most were on massive Harleys, me on my Ninja. I was treated with indifferent tolerance. I have heard reports that attendance reached 160,000 plus, with the number of bikes in the 40.000 plus range. It was insane. I wonder how come that many people can take a Friday off.
I felt like a fish out of water. A large percentage of the participants wore some type of Harley Davidson logo. Orange and black seemed to be the colours for the day. Maybe it is just to let everyone know they are the biker on the Harley not the banjo player on the Ninja.
All in all I am happy to have participated. I do not think I will attend again, once is quite enough. I did purchase a black t-shirt, with the skull and various other biker type markings that announces my attendance but not the brand of my ride.
