Are you going to the BWCA? I've been there a couple of times. I'd take a Deering Goodtime. They're light weight, cheap, and sound fairly decent. I don't own one, but I've got a friend who uses it for the same reasons you'd be using it. Also, if you lose a paddle, the Goodtime will get you home in an emergency.

Deering goodtime in my canoe, same reasons as above. I'm currently inventing a plastic one I can play in the tub!

Wonderful, thanks for the banjo advise, I sually canoe the BWCA once a year and head down the St Croix river two or three time a year too.
