Thanks guys. It was fun to write. I'm especially proud of the toothpaste part. My wife read it, though, and told me I got it all wrong: She said that she puts out the new tube as the old one wanes so that household residents don't lose hope, so that it's evident before despair sets in that the toothpaste era in the house will continue. Now that I understand, I'm ok with the practice.
