I have wanted an accordion for so long, I wanted to play Cajun music on something other than guitar. But I never could find one that was right for me- not enough keys and chord buttons, poor quality, too pricey, problems, those were all I saw. But recently I found my accordion.
It is an old Hohner, made in Germany. It has a lot of dings, chips, and some of the black keys are chipped because it has been played so much. It is a 41-key, 120 bass button accordion, which is a full sized accordion, what I had been looking for.
...This is one of the best uses of sixty bucks I've ever spent!
But I don't know much about it either. If anyone has any additional info on these accordions, age or anything, it would be appreciated. I am really only a strings person!

Not a lot of lovin about accordians in the banjo group. I love them, especially the all button accordions-Steireche, cajun, conjunto, etc. remember if you learn on an accordian with keys that have a chromatic scale and play the same note both pulled and pushed it may be difficult to learn button boxes with more diatonic scales that play like a harmonica (different notes on the push and the pull). Accordians can have some many different sounds depending on number of reeds for each note, whether they are steel or brass reeds, etc. Old ones are usually have tuning issues due to age etc. I say all of this and I don't even play them, but a play with a serious accordian player and hear all of the stuff about them, so these thoughts are only IMHO. Have fun, and don't wake the baby! Brad

60 bucks? For an antique, German-made Accordian? That's very cool. Looks like loads of fun, too. You go!

I just looked at your bio. 11 years old. Wow, you are going to have a blast on your musical journey for years to come. I can see what will be on your Christmas and birthday list every year. Keep us posted on your journey. Brad

I play banjo and my friend plays accordion. We kid each other about our choice of instrument. Recently we had an idea that if we got together as a band we could hire ourselves out to clear out bars at closing time. Unfortunately the name "Buzzkills" has already been adopted by a band. Looks like a cool accordion. Have a good time.

Way to cool!!! I played an accordian hmmm.....38 years ago as a kid. My dad would drive me across town every week. I took lessons from a lady who had a crooked eye! Lol! Real strict...that didn't last long and I quit playing it. Needless to say I was traumatized for all of those 38 years thereafter. This story is a true one. But ya gotta a really neat accordian. Play it take lessons or get videos to learn how to play it. Don't give up because music is a wonderful journey!!!!

Fun!! Good for you! I would like to have a button box, 'cause they are diatonic, and I already am purty good on harmonica. Mike
