We've changed from a 5-star rating system for videos and MP3s to a simple "Like" button. So far everyone seems to...well... "like" it a lot! It keeps things positive, it's simple, and you can see who else "liked" particular items.
By the way--all of the star reviews you've posted in the past didn't go away...we kept all of the 4 and 5-star reviews and converted them to "Likes". 1-3 star reviews were tossed out.
What do you think of the new "Like" button?

"Like" it !!! But why no more download button on the media archive page? I would use that almost exclusively because the BH Jukebox will often freeze on me after a couple of plays.

Personally, I liked stars better. Five stars says more than just "like" to me.
But if, in practice, people were basically just using 5 stars as a "like" button, then I guess the distinction is pretty meaningless, so I'm not really bemoaning the loss of stars.
On the other hand, I do like seeing who does the liking.

strumn1--you can still get "download" links on the Music Search page: http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/music-search.asp
We'll probably enhance that search soon anyway, to let you search by date, top 100 lists, etc...

I think it is very nice seeing who makes the posted rating- getting dissed by an anonymous rater sucks.

Well its something quick and easy, easy to pick and click, but if it were me I would make three buttons ( Non Picking, Picks-alot, Banjotastic) but then again thats me and my crazy ways. Great job though and good day to everyone

I think the "like" button is a great idea and a better system. For some reason, though, in the last few days, it has stopped working for me and I see a message that I need to sign in to rate this song, even though I am logged in. I tried logging out and back in and that didn't work. I'm perplexed...

Never mind... problem solved -- I recently updated Firefox and it must have messed up the cookies. I deleted the hangout cookies and logged back in and now the like button is back.
Thanks for the nifty new system!
