We had a long discussion about this idea several weeks back, and while there were lots of different ideas, everyone seemed excited about the prospects.
So we've been working on setting up some basic article-publishing and browsing tools. You can now see the articles area here: http://www.banjohangout.org/articles

Sounds great. Thanks Eric. This will come in handy when I do my doctorate on folk music in a few years.

Who owns the content once it's BHO posted/published? Is it BHO owns all rights? or just some digital version of First North American Serial Rights? And - pie in the sky best case scenario- what if you write something that another periodical want's to re-publish?

I haven't worked out a copyright statement for the articles yet, but the way I want it to work is, you're free to publish anything you write anywhere else--but other sites can't just copy the content without your permission. So I guess what I'm getting at is--you'll be the copyright owner.

I'd like to hope that we can have some scholarly work here at the hangout. It will likely benifit a lot of our members.

Are you planning on making this available on the Flatpicker Hangout, too? I could probably write some articles for guitar.

Thanks Eric, I understand what you mean- although I too do not have/know the appropriate legal wording for what you're talking about. I'll look into the appropriate wording and (unless you figure it out before I do) will let you know what it is.

Haven't been able to figure out what the Digital online website version of "First North American Serial Rights" are, but I think that's the idea you're going for. "First North American Serial Rights" Copyrights revert to Author upon publication. My lawyer friends haven't been as helpful as I had hoped.

Eric - Are you going to add a link to the articles from the homepage. Unless I've missed it the only link I've found is in this blog, which has now slipped off the most recent news. I think the Articles section is a good addition to the site, and I'd love to be able to find it easily.

I'll add a link eventually--for now I'm just trying to get some articles in there, and get kinks worked out.
