First Blog on here

Posted by dschuck on Monday, May 10, 2010

I posted this as a thread, and after reading it and laying it down, it came to me, it needed to be here on my page. My new jam friend and I have been getting together once or twice a week since meeting and I am getting so much better as of late, so thanks to my new jam partner.

The word is we are going to start going around playing, this is just getting better by the day. I am thankful to the Lord for putting someone that I needed in my life path, out of the blue, in the middle of nowhere.

This might be a tad long, and sort of "bloggish" sounding, but hang with me!Saturday, I dropped off my Calico, to have a new head, bridge and tail piece put on, as well as all adjustments with the action etc. that should have been done when I bought this thing new years ago. I also dropped off my son's guitar for some fret repair and just to have it gone over.
After leaving I was on cloud 9 for some reason, I was excited, just got done talking banjo for over an hour, was heading home to my farm, which I don't get to do everyday, but that is another story. I just had a great feeling for some reason.
I stopped in the local small store for something to drink. The lady behind the counter introduced me to a guy standing there, that "new how to play some bluegrass".
We shook hands, and he asked if I had a banjo with me. Well, I did, my 65 RB 250. I showed it to him and he grinned like a fresh road killed opossom. LOL
He lived about a mile from the store, so I followed him to his house for my first ever, not planned, meet, greet and jam session.
You have to understand, I learn hard, I am not the quickest study, I need to know this and that before I can get something, so my quest to find my "Flatt" guitar player has been a bust. I have tons of musical friends, but I have already drained all I am going to get from them to sit and play with me, until I get to thier level, which is a whole different matter. I have been searching, praying actually, to meet someone that I can get along with, that enjoys playing music, that understands how hard it is to pick the 5 string. Well me and this Ol Boy from Kentucky had a blast for over 3 hours, he knew all the standards by heart, he had a 1980 Blueridge guitar that floored me with the sound, of course maybe he was the reason it sounded so great! This guy had the patience of a saint working with me, and after some time we were jamming to songs that I thought I did not know how to play!
The bottom line is I cannot believe this finally happened. I bought my place 3 years ago and it took me this long to find someone in the area to jam with, and we are going to get together a few times a week now!
I just wanted to share this with BHO, in case there is someone looking for someone to play with, you have to ask around, and don't get discouraged, your picking partner is out there, have the faith, and keep after it!!!
Sorry if this is out of place or to windy, but dang, finally something came my way
!

I had to smile just reading your blog. I can feel you're excitement. Congratulations. I had a similar chance meetup 20 yrs ago.

Thanks for the comment Ks 5 picker!
Picking with this guy has helped me advance by light years, and we are still going at it, twice a week.
