Decided to use a Remo 10" Fiberskyn 3 Ambassador drum batter head, 10 mil one ply, instead of a banjo head, since this is a custom made banjo. I'll be able to try 8 or 9 others if I want a different sound. These are easily available, and the Fiberskin looks like a calf skin. I've chosen 10" because I've decided on a 25 1/2" scale and think that will look good together, plus my lathe is only 10". I cut up maple wood from an old hutch for the rim and will glue that with Gorrilla glue then turn it on my lathe.
