Fret Wear

Posted by JRice43315 on Tuesday, April 20, 2010

I have a Deering Deluxe Banjo. Recently I observed noticeable fret wear on the first thru fourth frets, the wear is especially noticeable beneath the first thru third strings. How concerned should I be, how does this affect the tone, and should make plans to have this repaired soon?

Frets do need to be dressed and or replaced over time. I`d say if it`s causing noticable problems, with buzz etc... then you should be conserned and take it to a trusted luthier/set up guy. May just need some very fine fileing done to get rid of grooves and level the fret out. Your are more likely to get answers to these kinds of questions by posting in the FORUMS. This one in the set-up repair forum. More people will read your questions there.
