A member here came to my place for a visit and to have me tinker with his Gibson RB that he`s not happy with, he brought along his Goldstar too. This was the 1st chance I`ve had to play a Goldstar and I have to say it was really nice. I`ve heard alot of people on here praise them and now I know why. The Gibson he brought was not bad sounding just way brighter than he liked and was used to. The bigger problem with the Gibson was the really shoddy fret work on the neck. It has very large fret wire, which is ok but it`s like they didn`t bother to finish them. When you play it they almost cut your hand when moving around the neck, brutal! I loosened the head from around 91 down to 89 put some cork under tail piece lid. (should cork the whole tail piece, but ran outta time) Fitted some foam between co-rod and head behind tail piece, very slightly loosened the big nut on co-rod, and the banjo now has a way deeper tone. Hopefuly after some playing he will enjoy the sound more now, but those frets will be an issue. It was nice to meet you and pick a bit. On another note my pre war conversion is visiting with my uncle in Texas, after a road trip from North Carolina, and will be in my hands in 6 days, can`t wait to meet her, and hope to play it at my gig on the 20th. Peace!

Hey Pepper, it was nice getting together with you. Thanks for the time and effort you put into getting my RB to sound a bit better. I played it for an hour when I got home Sunday night, and I'll have to get used to the sound of it, but yes, it does sound better.
Hopefully we can get together sometime in the future and put in more pickin' time. Lord knows I could use the help there also.
Take care, and thanks again,
Gordon
