I've been keeping my eyes open for Clawhammer teachers in the Toronto area, but can't seem to find any. Even searching for Toronto teachers on the BHO has turned up just a bunch of Scruggs style teachers. I'm probably just overlooking something there. If anyone can point me in the direction of Clawhammer teachers in the area, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'd like to get some advice/guidance as to technique, as I have taught myself, and don't know any other clawhammer players. It's hard to tell what you're doing right or wrong if no one tells ya'!

Perhaps you can just search for other clawhammer players in Toronto and get together with them. You can simply learn from each other without a formal student/teacher relationship. Look for folk or old-timey groups to play with.

Here are a clawhammer player and a Pro Shop I found in the Members pages. Hope it helps you out.
Scott Rogers interests include teaching. He plays melodic clawhammer.
Perhaps this next guy can get you hooked up with someone.
Grant Macneill - I grew up playing guitar and a little hacking around on banjo during the late 60s, early 70s. After a short period working in service for Fender Guitars, I opened The Twelfth Fret Guitarists Pro Shop in Toronto in 1977. We now have 6 full time luthiers on staff, the "new guy" having joined us 18 years ago. The number of fretted instruments that pass through our workshop and busy retail store astounds me. Here at 12fret, I have become "the banjo specialist" and really enjoy my work. The Twelfth Fret has grown to be the largest and best stocked source of banjos in Canada. Touch base with me any time by phone or email if you have technical questions. I love to talk shop when it comes to banjos !! I sell them too...and ship world-wide !

One of the best clawhammer players in Canada is Chris Coole. I think he lives in Toronto area and plays with the Foggy Hogtown Boys (I think that's right). Not sure if he takes students, but has a very good tab book and DVD that I started from. Try his web site or the band.

Yes, Emma, as soon as I saw your blog I was going to mention Chris Coole. If he doesen't teach, I know for sure he would be able to at least provide you with some names of people who do. You are very lucky actually to be in the Toronto area, as I think there is quite a clawhammer community growing there. Chris has made a few albums with Arnie Naiman, but I'm not sure if Arnie is right in Toronto or not. Arnie is also a BHO member and may be able to give you some names.
