that is way too much!!!
I say learn a song. Really learn it. Backwards and forwards. Play it in your mind. Hum it.
Play it in front of people. work on timing, tone, and record it. Does it sound right?
Then, when it is perfect, or almost, learn another song.

The key to learning a song a week is do not worry about have fast your playing. Learn technique, timing, new licks ectra; But the main thing is to keep going back to those songs constantly. If you do not move forward with learning new songs. You are stuck playing the same things over and over and then the banjo becomes boring. I can't tell you how boring bile them cabbage down becomes. BUT if you keep going back to it it is some foundational things that were learned. Banjo is to be enjoyed few become professionals at it but many enjoy the music, and friends that it brings you. Do what your instructor says and learn one song a week. I have done this and it has helped me tremendously.

Thanks for comments. I look forward to doing this. I am progressing rather rapidly now and I believe that is why he said that. Believe me I can play Sally Anne, Fireball Mail, and Cripple Creek several different ways. We stayed on those a while. I think I could play them standing on my head. He is also about doing them correctly so if I dont get it we will be ther until I do.
