i have just about finished a short scale fretless banjo. i started with a 9.5" pot i got from a guy on BHO.i put a skin head on it and built a neck from scratch. i used black walnut for the neck because the pot is so dark. it has ebony for a finger board and peg head overlay and heel cap are ebony as well. i did a couple of simple inlays and set a cameo (donated by my wife) into the center of the peg head. i like the peg head alot but not so sure about the inlay at the top of the finger board. was going to put another similar one at the bottom of the board but need to think about that for a while. it is 32.5" overall with a 22.75" scale. not sure i tuned it correctly but it sounds pretty good and is very fun to play. i will try to put a pic on here but if a am unsuccessful, check my photos.
