This year has been challenging for most of us. Lots of questions like, "How can we make it on our income?", and, "why are our wages staying the same, and the cost of living keeps rising?. Also, worry, anxiety , and depression have crept into our once fairly secure, and "on-track" lives. What is the answer? How do we cope with the day to day bombardment of negatives? Simple answer,.....keep it simple. Take an assessment of the things you use on a daily basis, water, power, T.V., gadgets, telephones, autos, kitchen appliances, lawn equipment, power tools, etc. Check your thermostat and see if it could be lowered a degree or two....Now, make a list of all the items you use on a regular basis,....items that use energy, or fuel, and determine if you can trim the fat, so to speak, in these areas. Use things less, and eliminate things you really can! Our power bills are not going to stop coming, and the money we WILL save can be directed to other areas of real need. NOW, look in the fridge, are there food items that you would call "comfort foods"? Good, we all have them. so, use them up, and don't restock with them....that's right, deprive yourselves, a little ....because along with the decrease in income, comes a little (or alot) of depression, and these comfort foods can assist in ruining our health if used in tandom with depression, and stress, and anxiety. What DO we do with our time? Get busy! Physical activity is a sure-fire remedy for what ails us, and it keeps us awake, aware, and ready to act if the need arises. Take more walks (if you are able) with your family and pets! Call friends and family over for dinner and music! The companionship and comraderie are so beneficial, that we can't afford not to socialise! Last but not least, Do Not Become A Hermit! All of us are experiencing these economic pressures at some level, but,......Isolation is a means of internalising our fears and distrust of others...we tend to magnify our situation...and the health issues that are associated with isolation are sometimes the cause of irreversable problems...call friends and family on a regular basis, and draw close to those you care for and love. Be creative in exploring new friendships and ideas. Your fertile imagination (all musicians have one) can take you on never-before realised journeys, that are of greater value than all the money and "things" this world has to offer. We will endure, if we re-direct the new time and energy we have gained due to the seasons of "little" that surround us....Give yourself the gift of diversity! Be creative!!
