I was watching the 80's Civil War movie (or was it a mini-series?) called "The Blue and the Gray" last night on videotape. There were a few scenes where they had someone picking a banjo. Specifically, he was flat-picking a Master-clone, fully inlayed resonator banjo. Not exactly period appropriate in either instrument or playing style. They did throw some dirt on the banjo head to make it look a little old and beat up. I wonder - was that the job of a make-up artist?

They didn't work very hard to make that one authentic. If you look closely there are power lines running to the outhouse in one scene and a 1978 Gremlin overgrown with grass sitting in the backyard of one of the Southern plantation houses.

1978 Gremlin? And I thought Julia Duffey's come-ons to Stacy Keach were bad.
