So I've been playing the Gold Tone CB-100 and find that I want to get a better sound from it. Volume, too.
I'm new to all of this banjo stuff so does anybody have any suggestions? Do I need a better bridge? Tighten the head? Dowse it in kerosene?

I''d be more concerned with tone than volume when playing clawhammer. Most of the guys I know playing these banjos, (and I know some good ones) have stuffed the head with a bit of foam rubber to kill the overtones and give a deeper, meatier tone to the banjo-a very common practice with openbacks. Happy frails, Pastor Harry

Thanks Pastor! Right now I have an old dishrag crammed in there. And a bit of duct tape over the bridge to keep my family from killing me while I practice in the house!
