I just had the great pleasure this past thursday night of attending a special screening of Bela Fleck's documentary movies called "Throw Down Your Heart" where Bela Brings the modern banjo back to Africa to meet its possible forebearers. This is a marvelous journey full of humor, wisdom and brotherhood. Music truly is the universal language.
The movie is full of wonderful music - amazing playing by Bela and scenes of african crowds calling for more banjo (ya gotta love that).
It was followed by an extensive Q&A with Bela himself and capped off the evening with a solo improvisation for 10 minutes or more on the banjo where Bela incorporated some of the musical styles we had just seen in the movie from the African players.
If this film comes ot your area be sure to catch it - it will be well worth your time.
