I got a chance to go back up to "This is the Place Heritage Park" on Friday, July 3rd, to spend an afternoon playing banjo. I took a couple of tamborines and some other rhythm instruments. Kids - unless they are very inhibited - seem to really like playing rhythm along with my banjo picking and singing, and it's fun for me as well.
I also took the plunge and re-levelled my Kirtland banjo fretboard, using 100 grit sandpaper stuck on a granite slab. I sanded a little relief into it between the 5th and 10th frets, and took it all down to 400 grit paper. As I expected, I will have to redo virtually all of the engraving of the inlays - now with the added problem of having the fretboard glued to an already-shaped neck. Such is the price of - if not perfection -then at least competence.
