Only one word can describe our first day at the Rochester International Jazz Festival.....WOW !!!
First, we were entertained by the Penfield High School "Monday & Wednesday" Jazz Ensemble. Close your eyes and you might confuse these kids with a Big Band of yore. The kids were really hip and really into what they've got going on.
Then, we moved to Bernunzio's for some old-timey mountain music by Greg (one of John's employees) and "The Subdivisions", a small group that Greg formed with some friends and students at the Eastman School of Music. No, it wasn't jazz they were playing, BUT it was definitely a sound that would be appreciated by many of my 5-string BHO brethren. Hats off to Zach, Jeff, Michelle, Aaron and Greg.
Between thse two acts, I've never witnessed such passion and love for playing music as I have seen from all these young people. The future sure looks bright !!!
PS For those of you who have never been to Bernunzio's Uptown Music store, this place you gotta see !!!
