The country of Uzbekistan is home to an amazing 5-string banjo player named Janna Kim. Janna is an extraordinarily gifted vocalist who has learned how banjo in a Central Asian country where, as yet, there are no other banjo players. Many of you know her from Banjo Hangout, where she is an active member.
Playing the banjo, Janna is pioneering a new form of music in her country. Whether that music goes anywhere in Uzbekistan remains to be seen. What seems more certain is that Janna IS going places with her music.
Many hangout members have contributed to the Janna Banjo Fund which resulted in getting this talented young musician a profession-level banjo. Elation Center for the Arts, an organization my wife and I direct, partnered with Tom Nechville to bring this about. We're still raising money in support of this project. If you're interested in contributing, go to http://elationarts.org/
Thanks to all who have contributed so far.
