A Gourd Harp

Posted by ScottKnick on Sunday, June 7, 2009

What do you do when you get a dipper gourd that's not straight enough to build a banjo out of? Well, if it's curved enough, you build a harp! This hard features a figured maple sound board, hand-shaved tuning pegs (made from walnut dowel and wooden toy wheels!) and four ball-end ultra-light electric guitar strings. This little instrument is certainly not concert-ready, but it does illustrate a novel way to turn a gourd into a music maker (other than as a rattle, a kalimba, or, of course, a banjo). --
