A little Jammin'

Posted by Jonnycake White on Friday, June 5, 2009

I went camping with my family early this week for a couple of nights, to Capitol Reef National Park in central Utah.  I took along, as I almost always do, my camping banjo.  Theresa, the campground hostess, had a card up on the message board wanting to jam with any musicians who came along.  She plays mountain dulcimer.   So I went over for an hour one night and we played a few songs.  I mostly felt foolish, because I was playing tunes I had known fairly well at one time but hadn't practiced much recently (as I am concentrating on learning some minstrel banjo tunes).  I was also playing an A-scale fretted banjo, whereas most recently I've been playing my G-scale fretless banjos almost exclusively.  And, I'm just not used to playing with anyone else.  So I made lots of mistakes and got thrown off quite often.  Ah well, Theresa was gracious enough not to humiliate me any further.
