Banjo Camp North 2009

Posted by kathy315 on Sunday, May 24, 2009

How come when you're working 3 days goes by so slow, but when it's camp time, the days and nights just fly by??This year, although there wasn't a staff concert,Laura and I decided to go Thurs and stay the extra night..we were literally jamming within 10 minutes of arrival..We had a 'girls jam' Thurs night, playing with 2 old time clawhammer players..what a beautiful sound they made!

The whole weekend was filled with classes/food/jamming and more jamming.I picked up a few new songs to learn, one being the single string version Glenn Nelson had of Soldier's Joy.I have the crappiest break to this song already,so was really happy to have something new to try.Janet Davis is a gem.She makes it all make sense...And after  few years of being unable to play up the neck (yes, that long drawn out saga of the botched shoulder surgeries)I decided to take a few classes Casey Henry was teaching..it had been years since I'd played up there, and was happy that I could still feel my hand at the end of them..I've been practicing what we learned and actually bought one of her DVDs (normally I do not learn this way)and was pleasantly surprised...wish she would relocate!!It's always a pleasure to see Tony T,whom I credit for helping me out years ago by explaining lots of stuff!

Bob A makes camp fun,it was great jamming with him both nights. We had a great song jam,it was an up to speed jam but with singing instead of all instrumentals played at breakneck speed.

Robbin and Kerry,it was great seeing you guys again. You're like family! Fisher thanks for the bumpah stickah. You rock. And hopefully we can get Bill Evans back for 2010.Camp just isn't the same for me without him.

Great seeing you all again.Keep picking...

Hi Kathy,

It was great, even if I didn't win the inflatable banjo. I'll have to make sure I teach some classes I can entice you to take next year.

Have a fun holiday.

What? Nothing to say about 2010? Well, I guess I'm still sorry I didn't get to go anyway
