I had a major epiphany while practicing last evening.
Some of you know that in recent weeks I've set aside the plectrum and have been trying my hand at learning tenor for the first time in my life. And being a jazz enthusiast, there's no way I can get around managing the Augmented chord. It has been intimidating me from the start, as I have not been been able to get my fingers to agree with my head. Well, I'm happy to say that I learned a little trick, or mindset rather, that helped me through it. Here goes.....
Make a barred first position major chord. Ex., F Major 5-5-7-8. No problem at all. Drop the middle finger down onto the 3rd string and Voila'......instant A Augmented chord. So, in short, I learned that instead of having to learn a completely new chord, I could just add one finger to a chord formation I could already make with ease. How simple!!
Amazing, the things that can happen when you practice. Now if I can just get my pinky to agree with me on the Diminished chords.......I'm open to all ideas and old Injun tricks that might help.
