Playing with a children's choir

Posted by Jonnycake White on Monday, April 27, 2009

I had the opportunity to play with a children's choir - "The Heralders of Utah" - Saturday.  My two youngest daughters are in the choir.  They did a "friends and family" concert of old American patriotic, spiritual, and folk songs.  The two numbers I played on were "Ching-a-ring Chaw" and "Camptown Races."  Since the choral arrangements for these songs were somewhat complex, and since I'm not capable of much more anyway, I basically just frailed away on chords.  Both were played in an Open-D tuning on my closest-to-standard banjo (see here for full pictures: http://members.csolutions.net/jwhitney/subpages/threeBanjosProject/nauGallery/gallery.html).

It was a fun thing.
