Life is great

Posted by retiredguy on Monday, March 30, 2009

Well, got home around noon today after 8 days in the hospital. My vascular surgeon did an aortagram on my legs and put stints in both to remove blockage that I had. Had a little (lot) pain, took a couple of Lortabs and just slept them off and feeling better now. While I was away, the mailman had left me a couple or three items I had ordered. One being a new Tyler Mountain Open Back 5 stringer, another being Ralph Stanleys "Old -Time Pickin'". Ralph doing the entire album playing Clawhammer banjo. I am going to do my first review of anything on the BHO. a preview for you, IT IS GREAT.  Also, an album by the great PICKER, Mary Z. Cox "Walkin' that Banjo Home"..I just can't believe what GOOD TASTE I have or had when I ordered them.. I'm just going to review everything, even the Lortabs....

I had wanted an open-back 'jo for a while now and finally did it. It plays a lot different than the Resonator Austin or the Hohner 5 string Delux. It was not set up when I opened the box. The 5th string nut looks cut almost all the way down to the fret board. The 5th string tuner looks askew too. I don't know if I have the bridge in the right location either. It didn't come with an armrest or a strap or a gig-bag. BUT, it was  Just the same, I love it!!! After a week in the hospital, it was a good homecoming, The dogs were glad to see me and me them. My little 8.9" screen Acer Laptop allowed me keep in touch with the BHO so that eased the pain somewhat. I think I watched every Clifftop youtube video posted for the last 3 years. If I live long enough, I'm going this year and that's it. Planning on going 3 days early and staying over three days as well. Those WV folks know how to get down. Looks like all I'm going to have to learn is Greasy Coat and Fly around My Pretty little girl.. My next plan is to get going on some of the local (within 300 miles) Bluegrass festivals. I guess the first one will be at the Hillside Bluegrass Park down in Cochran, Ga. Them Crackers know how to get down too. I'm gonna shut up now, don't think the Lortabs have worn completely yet..

Like I said "Life is great". Spring is here and I am ready for the festivals to begin.
