Mr. Yates, you make an excellent neck

Posted by johnboyrox on Monday, February 23, 2009

I have been playing my Yates Rattlesnake for a few weeks now.  It has been a long time since I have played this much.  I just cant get enough.  I have been playing up the neck quite a bit in the 7-12 range, and the things that just didn't work before--now they are starting to come together.  My left hand is better than it has ever been.  At least part of the credit has to go to the Neck on this new banjo.  It is a whole new ballgame.  The 'Snake isn't completely dialed in yet, but it is already deadly.

My Epiphone has been a solid instrument for a long time, but when I pick it up now, it feels like I'm trying to fret a square neck .  The Snake is silky smooth and lightning fast and I am not going back.  My last nice banjo I ended up selling in my mid twenties to pay for a new car ('29 Gibson TB conversion).  This one, I sold a truck to pay for it, and if I need another vehicle to get to work or something...I'll just stay home and play my banjo.
