I am in banjo doldrums. The prevailing winds are calm and it is very slow progress learning new songs or putting together interesting techniques. In these times I tend to buy too much gear or new instruments. I restrung my old Paramount tenor with a new tailpiece, bridge, and strings so it plays Irish tenor style. That gave me something to do. I have been learning some old (I mean really old) Irish tunes on the classical guitar... All designed to keep me interested and creative during the slow times.
Anyway - done complainin'... My wife recorded some interesting scratch vocals and guitar tracks for me to play with on the computer so I am off to multitrack some things... that should help as well.
Hope your pickin' is doing good and when in the doldrums, lower the sails and pray for enough gas in the tanks to motor your way through.

I went the other way. Bin playing GDAE for many years, but got into a rut, so I started learning 5-string a couple of years ago. I truly believe it's made a difference.
