Aussie Fiddle tunes...

Posted by gkuchan on Friday, February 6, 2009

Please excuse my ignorance here. But, I'm on a quest to learn at least one fiddle tune from each continent. I know The one for Antarctica might be really quick..(entitled *(&(*#! it's cold). But to all of you ladies and gentlemen down under what makes an Australian fiddle tune an Australian fiddle tune? And could you recommend a resource for finding either tab or recordings that's friendly to Yanks? Thanks!

Hi Grant - In my humble opinion it would have to be Waltzing Matilda but may be hard to find tabs on it. Should be plenty of MP3's on the net though. It nearly became the Aust national anthem back in the 80's and is sung at most sporting events as a gee up for the crowd. I think it would sound good on the fiddle as it has that Irish style / sound to it and a great story to boot. Hey and what happened to the Darleks? Where they ex-ter-min-a-ted :), cheers Glyn

Hi mate (Wow that was really Australian-sounding) I put some links to Australian tunes on your 'Aussie fiddle tune' thread. I hope they are helpful.
