On Decision Making

Posted by Don Borchelt on Tuesday, February 3, 2009

"I see around me many who have seen fewer years than I have, and what I now say may be of some use to them.  Always take all the time to reflect that circumstances permit, but when the time for action has come, stop thinking."

- President Andrew Jackson, on board the steamboat Cinderella in New York Harbor, after observing confusion among the boat's officers as it approached Manhattan.

I've read a similar quote supposedly said or authored by Jackson:

"Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in."

Sounds like Old Hickory. Tough SOB.
