dont know how to put pics on the blog, so you'll have to check my photos.
i am beginning to be able to see what i had envisioned. this neck was a very nice piece of curly maple. i laminated it with ebony and maple to make the strips down the center. there is also an ebony veneer on top so that the binding will stand out better. the peg head design is a combination of an orpheum and a paramount (looks somewhat like an OME). this is the first time i have ever tried to bind the peg head, seems to be alright. im happy with it. it is an ebony overlay with tempura paint on it. ( very hard to see pencil lines on ebony) the fret board and nut are just sitting on there, not ready to attach them yet. first comes the peg head inlays. (this design can also be viewed in my photos). was planning on an ebony overlay on the back of the peg head also but found out it is very hard to steam bend ebony without ripping it apart! may still attempt it but will have to think up another way of doing it. would like to do that before i cut out the peg head, so it may be a while but the inlay job is next. one more problem is that i cant seem to find more of the same binding i used on the peg head. maybe it is not made anymore. what is on there is an ivoroid binding but the only things i can find are black, white and cream. wish me luck on this one, i would prefer the bindings match! anyway, i have aquired an old slingerland pot with an archtop tone ring that i plan to use with this. hopefully all will work out.
till the next update,
c ya
