After reading some threads on here, I shortened my strap length. WOW, what a difference. It is much easier for me to get the correct pick angle and much less stress on my left arm. I know it is personal preference and I will be keeping mine pretty high.

Yes a higher banjo is MUCH easier to play. Just look at old photos from Ralph Stanley. His banjo was just below his chest.

As I mostly practise sitting down, I set the strap length so as the banjo is in the same same position whether I'm sitting or standing. I learnt this useful tip from Earl, in Earl's seminal book of the 5 string banjo.
