Banjo Tune Up

Posted by dgill on Tuesday, January 20, 2009

I am making progress and my granddaughter is doing fine.  I was planning to buy another banjo that may be of higher quality and easier for a beginner to start out on.  I contacted First Quality Music in Louisville Ky. to inquire about a new Jo.  To my surprise the sales person started asking me questions and lead me to understand that my banjo may just be sick and need some adjustments and revisions in set up.  He said if I were to come to the store he would go through it with me and set it up the best he could and teach me in the process more about this set up.    They are first class and I have never dealt with many folks that would help you out the way this guy offered to help me, especially when he could have just sold me a new banjo.  I will be doing more business with them and would recommend them to anyone.

That`s great, and that`s the way more people should do business, and let it be a lesson, it was a very good business move on his part as he secured your comitment to that store for probably years and many dollars to come. Most people are just after the quick buck but not everyone, and those are the people  that deserve your hard erned dollar. I hope the set up works for you.

So, yea I think mine is sick too. Mostly because his last owner was probably better than me. Haha! anyway, I'm having a real hard time being consistent and it's bugging me, you having any of the some problems?

Yes I am.  At first my plant fingers stayed put and now the more I play the harder it is for me to keep them where I want them.  I need to work on timing first and foremost.  I suck at it at the moment.  I am sure it will get better and easier as I go on getting more experiance.  I love to play and now know two songs.  Bile Them Cabbage Down and Banjo In The Hollow.  Have a ways to go to get my speed where I need it, but it will come.  Good luck to ya and stay in touch.  Us newbies must grow together.
