My First Driver's License

Posted by brokenstrings on Thursday, February 1, 2007

was to drive a horse-drawn cab in New York City. (I still have the license. I look like one of the creeps who murdered Sharon Whatsername on it, and I had to be fingerprinted. I also still have a black top hot like Mike Gregory's as a souvenir of that time.)

Fran, who was training me, took off to get a coffee and just then the line moved and I had to repark horse and buggy across the street in front of the Plaza Hotel, which involved a U-turn and backing the horse into place in front of a car. Well, that was my first driving accident. The veteran drivers had a field day laughing raucously at me.  I really made their day.

Mind you, I had experience with horses, but not with driving them. Among other things, you don't get the exhaust fumes when you're sitting astride the horse. Just thought you should know.

That's too funny Jessica. Driving a horse and buggy would prove a challenge to me, but BACKING one?!?!?!? Thanx for sharing.

Tony, learning to parallel-park a car ain't NOTHING compared to parallel-parking a horse and buggy!
