We must have had 175 people or so at last night's weekly contra dance here in Louisville. There were lots of young people and new dancers. I suppose the holidays had something to do with that, but there was a lot of energy in the hall -- and up on the stage where the volunteer string band I sit in was playing. They even asked us to play an extra waltz at the end of the evening.
A new wrinkle in the evening was the opportunity for new dance callers to give it a try. There was one person who gave it a shot, and she did a very nice job.
There is lots of positive energy at the Louisville contra dances. The dancers appreciate the live music, and the musicians appreciate the opportunity to play in an ensemble for the dancers.

That's great to hear that you had a good dance. Correspondingly, is the old-time music scene pretty strong in Louisville. Do you have regular jams?
