Well, I just posted my first forum question yesterday, and got quite a bit of helpful suggestions from all that replied. I had realized a few days ago that I've been wearing my fingerpicks upside down. After I got past the embarresment stage, and the laughing stage, I put them on proper, and what a difference it makes! Now the picks slide off the string instead of pulling on them. Makes for far easier playing. My speed and accuracy has increased twofold. I also was able to figure out why my 5th string buzzed by reading some of the articles on repairing your banjo, I just used a real fine handsaw to deepen the groove in the nut, and it buzzes no more. That was driving me crazy!! Wel............... nuf of this, back to pickin and grinnin'.
