I’m replacing the original tuner with a Richard 10:1; the original is in there pretty tight. What’s the best way to lever or pop it out?

probably glued in, hold a hot soldering iron on the metal part of the tuner and it might slide right out

Gentle and firm with support:
1) Remove the knob and place a small deep socket over the shaft and give it a warm-up whack with the plastic hammer.
2) Rocker it by whacking the large body of the tuner (not the shaft), side to side, with the plastic hammer longitudinally to the neck. Never rocker it up and down; this will crack the neck.

Make sure you do not have a Grover or similar brand tuner that has a small HARD TO SEE screw on the side of the tuner peg that is inserted into the neck holding it in.

You haven't mentioned if the tuner peg is a friction one for splined geared one? Can you post a closeup clear photo of it?

Gotoh, evidently. I have a Rickard 5th installed that's marked as being made by Gotoh and has the Rickard logo on it.

I thought that only the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, Rickard tuners were 10:1 and the 5th was standard ratio. No ?
