Just listed in classifieds,,,
1930's KK-10 conversion. I bought this conversion from Lowell Levinger ( owner of Players Vintage Instruments and founding member of the Youngbloods with Jessie Colin Young). Lowell's a great guy, a legend and a wonderful musician. This was his personal banjo for many years.
Metal is all original with the exception of flange (original was broken) and newer Presto tailpiece. A West Coast luthier did the conversion for Lowell many years back and it stands toe-to-toe with the best Neat, Smith etc. conversions out there and I've had several. The tone ring is a Curtis McPeake and the slip-fit ring/rim fit is absolutely perfect. The neck-to-pot contact is as well.
The mahogany neck itself has a beautiful "butterscotchy" rosewood fingerboard and the wreath inlay work is precise and flawless as well.
In terms of tone it's a powerful banjo that you can really dig into but just as important, it has an intrinsic sweetness and overall richness of tone that's always there.
