Arthur Hatfield - Posted - 01/11/2025: 07:29:43
This Past year has been pretty rough here and last night I was setting in the house eating and seen some light outside that wasn't normal went to the back door and flames were already burning high from the shop to much to try to go in thought it was going to get my mobile home also they are so close together but thank God it didn't. I had just got 4 necks and a4 resonators back from Andy Todd who just finished them all burned them all and every tool I had big and small. I will be in touch personally with every one I have money from or any deposit money from. Sincerely Arthur Hatfield

That's terrible news. I'm sorry that you lost your shop, but glad that it didn't spread to your home.
eagleisland - Posted - 01/11/2025: 08:40:17
Oh no... Arthur, I am so sorry to hear this.
With everything else that's going on you probably haven't figured out next steps. But when you do, let us all know - and how we can help.

Arthur your one of the best friends I have ever had and I hate this for you as you have had a rough time of late… I am going to get over there and see you. Try and not worry about commitment’s as this is not something you can control.

This photo is hard to see as so much joy was had at this place. it was very special.Arthur did so much for so many people. he kept his prices way down on his banjos and made so anyone could afford a top professional quality banjo. I remember him cutting way off the price for Kevin (Warpdrive) Hendrix so he could get a wonderful banjo.

I have created a gofundme for Arthur. This is a terrible tragedy.
All donations will go to Arthur. Arthur does know I that have done this. I do not know Arthur personally. Paul Davis is making me two necks. Arthur is mentoring Paul. The necks were started in Arthur's shop.
Gofundme does take a fee.

Praying for Arthur -
He is a great friend and of course one of the finest builders and repairmen in the business.
Hang in there Arthur and know that you have touched so many people and impacted more people in a positive way than you could ever imagine.
The banjo community is fully here to support you

Charlie it would be helpful if you can post on the thread about the GoFundMe. banjohangout.org/topic/401353/#5073103
Couple folks have chimed in on there questioning the legitimacy of this effort. Thank you sir!

Thank you for what you are doing. When you say 'Arthur is ready to get started,' if that means he is going to continue with his craft that is wonderful news. quote:

I have a banjo on order with Arthur. The banjo was supposed to ship yesterday, January 13. Arthur contacts me today, apologizing for not shipping on time and wanted to know when I want it shipped, this week or next. That is Arthur, someone that cares about his customers, even during such trying times. God Bless Arthur Hatfield.

I have also emailed SPBGMA and Alison Brown. I couldnt get a good email for Steve Martin. I don't know either of these greats but hopefully word will spread among the higher echelon of the Bluegrass world.

I just gave anonymously as is my practice with GFM, and there's no message opp with that. But good wishes for Mr. Hatfield from . . . a Leftie. On the Leftie Left Coast. Because banjo love extends across the whole spectrum.
