I had one banjo that had an extended fretboard and it seemed harder if not impossible to use my right hand any higher than the fretboard extension on the pot. Wonder what anyone else's experience is?

I don't know of others who play clawhammer on a cantilever-fingerboard banjo. I guess if you want to play over the fretboard, use a banjo with a standard one.

I just avoid playing over the extension (as Walt does in the video above). I dig too deep to comfortably play over the fretboard...although I did for years, until going scooped.
My Stewart Imperial Banjeaurine has a very long extension. I just play a little lighter.

Playing off the extension wasn't a problem with my old Orpheum, but the width of the neck made it challenging for me.
